The companies guide the integrated farmers on several methods for the preservation of headwaters and water resources.  By implementing them, such phenomena as soil erosion and sediment transport to nearby rivers are prevented, thus reducing the pollution of water streams.

From 2005 to 2019, the Micro Basins Program made it possible, with data analysis obtained by researchers at the Federal University of Santa Maria, to keep the farmers even more informed with the aim to protect headwaters and preserve streamside forests through the correct use, management, soil and water resources conservation practices. These guidelines were disseminated in seminars and field days.
